Special to GUIDON
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” So begins one of the greatest novels of all time, “A Tale of Two Cities,” written by Charles Dickens. For the past few weeks, the Fine Linen Drama company has been hard at work bringing a musical version Dickens’ classic tale from the page to the Rolla stage. The production opens at 7 p.m. April 19 at the Cedar Street Playhouse, 701 North Cedar Street in Rolla. First performed on Broadway in 2008, this version of “A Tale of Two Cities” was interpreted by playwright and composer Jill Santroiello to capture the essence of Dickens’ masterwork, which is set in London and Paris during the French Revolution. ![]() From left, Rebecca Grow, Justin Mosher and Joe Davidson appear in the Fine Linen Drama production of “A Tale of Two Cities” at the Cedar Street Center. The production is augmented by period costumes designed by Rolla native Amy Nisbett Hobbs, while the set and lighting design bring the turmoil and resolution of the French Revolution into the theatre. Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. April 19-21, April 24, and April 26-28. Matinees are scheduled at 2 p.m., April 21 and April 28. Tickets for Tuesday and Thursday performances are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 16 and younger. Tickets for Friday and Saturday shows are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
