WHS roundup: Tigers tennis team defeats Lakers Print E-mail

The Waynesville High School boy’s tennis team defeated Camdenton, 5-4, in a close match at home April 5.

“The boys played well and (kept) it together,” WHS coach Paula Davis said.

In singles matches, Waynesville’s Lucas Cressler defeated Camdenton’s Anc Osborn, 8-5; Hunter Salder beat Camdenton’s Thomas Smith, 8-6; and Devonte Baity defeated Camdenton’s Seth Hamilton, 8-3.

In doubles, Waynesville’s team of Tyler Warren and Baity won a tie breaker set 7-3, and Sadler and Carl Herrmann defeated their Camdenton opponents, 8-4.

Up next: The WHS team was scheduled to play in the Springfield Invitational on Wednesday, and are slated to travel to Lebanon this afternoon. The Tigers’ next home game is scheduled April 16, when they welcome Osage starting at 4 p.m.



Golf


Waynesville’s boys’ golf team fell to Rolla on Monday, with the Tigers finishing 23 strokes behind the Bulldogs at Rolla.

Rolla’s Mark Martin and Mike Steelman claimed the low scores of the day, each shooting a 40.

Jacob Malley led Waynesville, shooting a 45, followed by Wade Howser (47), Kyle Creach (49) and Cody Vaughn (51).

The WHS golf team competed in the Missouri State University Relays on April 5, finishing tied for ninth place with Ozark in the 12-team field with 342 points.

Malley led WHS with a 78, and Vaughn followed with an 82.

Rolla won the tournament with a team score of 305, followed by Springfield-Kickapoo (305) in second and Joplin (307) in third.
