Volleyball season wraps; Marines go undefeated Print E-mail

The U.S. Marine Corps Detachment remained undefeated to claim the Conference A title, while the 795th Military Police Battalion upset Staff Judge Advocate to claim the Conference B crown in the final volleyball standings for 2012.

On the final night of Conference A action April 17, the Marine Det. defeated Garrison Command in straight games at Davidson Fitness Center to preserve their undefeated streak and end the season at 6-0.

In other games, the Jarheads defeated the Medical Activity two games to one. MEDDAC would later come back to defeat Garrison Command in straight games, while MEDDAC’s Team 2 defeated the 92nd Military Police Battalion in straight games.

The 84th Chemical Battalion, which wrapped its season up April 10, finished second in Conference A with a season record of 4-2, followed by the 92nd MP’s and the Jarheads, both at 3-3; Garrison Command and MEDDAC 2, both at 2-4, and MEDDAC, which finished the season at 1-5.

In Conference B games played April 18, the 795th MPs beat the previously undefeated SJA, two games to one, for the title. The win left both teams with a season record of 5-1. The 31st Engineer Battalion, which finished third at 4-2, defeated the 5th Engineer Battalion in straight games. The Navy Detachment was fourth at 3-3. The 5th Engineers and DENTAC, both at 2-4, finished the season fifth and sixth, respectively.

With the completion of the regular season, teams are gearing up for the Commander’s Cup Volleyball Tournament, which begins Monday. The championship game is slated for 7 p.m., May 2.
