of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general

On Memorial Day, we will honor those who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. We will also pay respect to Family members and friends who have passed. As we remember those who served or who impacted us or our nation, I want you to know that you are extremely important to your unit, our Army and our country. I thank you for your commitment and service and want you to safely enjoy the holiday weekend.
Whether you are in the military, a Department of Defense civilian, a retiree, a contractor or a Family member, you are part of our team.  Being part of a team means getting involved and taking care of one another whether on the job, in training, or off duty. As a professional, you must set the example, and if you see something that is not right, get involved and fix it. Most importantly, we need to look out for each other.
As of today, we have enjoyed 225 consecutive days with no fatalities due to accidents. I thank you for your efforts in this accomplishment. Please continue to set the example, stay involved, and take care of one another in order to build on this success. Wear your seat belt and ensure that your passengers do the same. Drink responsibly and always have a designated driver if you choose to drink. Get the right training, the right gear, and the right mentorship if you ride a motorcycle. We must also take extra precaution against heat injury in these summer months, and in all activities, think before you act, and use the buddy system.
Thank you again for all you do. Enjoy the holiday weekend and be safe.
