Special to GUIDON
The Waynesville R-VI School District recently released its schedule for sports practices, free physicals and parent-and-athlete meetings for the upcoming fall season. Aug. 6 is the first day of practice for Waynesville High School fall sports, which includes varsity, junior varsity and ninth-grade football, softball, cross country, boys’ soccer, girls’ tennis, girls’ golf and volleyball. High school teams will be selected the week of Aug. 6, and games will start before school begins. Waynesville Middle School will start its fall sports practices Aug. 16. Free sports physicals High school and middle-school students participating in sports for the 2012-2013 seasons must have a sports physical dated after Feb. 1, 2012, on file with the WHS Athletic Office prior to the first day of practice. Free physicals donated by Mercy Clinic in St. Robert are scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: — July 31 for students with last names beginning with the letters A-H; — Aug. 1 for students with last names beginning with I-P; — Aug. 2 for students with last names beginning with Q-Z. Students should use the Missouri State High School Activities Association Physical Form. A parent signature will be needed on the physical form, or a parent must be present at the exam. Participation fees The annual athletic participation fee of $25 will be charged for the 2012-2013 school year. The fee helps offset expenses in all areas of the overall athletic program. The fee must be paid before the first game, match or contest before students will be allowed to participate. Fees may be paid in cash, check or money order payable to the Waynesville Athletic Department. If a student is injured, and therefore excluded from participation for the season prior to the first scheduled contest, the participation fee will be refunded if requested by the end of the season. After the first contest is played, no money will be refunded. The participation fee will not be returned if a participant quits or does not finish the season. If a tryout policy is instituted for team members by the coaching staff, any participant not making the beginning season roster will have his or her participation money refunded, if requested by the end of the season. If a family has more than one child participating, the following rate schedule will apply: $25 for the first child; $15 for the second child; $10 for each additional child. Parent and Athlete Meetings The Waynesville Athletic Department will hold meetings in August for student-athletes who plan to participate in fall, winter and/or spring sport for the 2012-13 school year. All seventh-grade and ninth-grade student athletes are required to attend, as well as all other student-athletes who have not attended a sports parent/athlete meeting in the past. Meetings are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and Aug. 20 in the Waynesville High School Auditorium. One parent or guardian must attend the meeting with their son or daughter. Students will not be allowed to play in a game, match or contest if they do not attend with their parent or guardian. The focus of the meeting concerns eligibility, sportsmanship, the student-athlete code of conduct and parent-coach communication. Admission prices Admission prices for the 2012-2013 school year are $4 for adults and students for varsity contests, and $3 for sub-varsity contests. Sports passes are available for purchase in the WHS Athletic Office for admission to school athletic events. Individual season passes are $15; an individual annual pass is $35; family season passes are $30, and family annual passes are $70. |
