Missouri Department of Conservation

As part of its 75th anniversary, the Missouri Department of Conservation recently hosted a public photo contest. Now MDC needs the public to help it decide which photo best depicts the natural beauty of the Show-Me State.

The contest encouraged people to submit their best images that celebrate the natural wonders of Missouri and the 75-year legacy of MDC. More than 1,880 people submitted almost 13,000 photos in seven categories.

A panel of photography and nature experts had the challenging task of narrowing the submissions to a top selection in each of the following categories: mammals, plants, reptiles and amphibians, insects and spiders, birds, outdoor recreation, and habitats and landscapes.

The Conservation Department is now encouraging Missouri residents to cast their votes for their favorite photo from among the seven category winners for a “Best-of-Show” top photo.

Voting will occur during the month of July, starting Sunday and continuing through July 31. To cast a vote, go to the MDC website at mdc.mo.gov/node/16689.

The seven category winners and top photo will be featured in the October issue of the Missouri Conservationist magazine, as well as on the MDC website and other media.
