Fort Leonard Wood’s own Keyshawn Smith, 10, is a national champion, taking first place in the standing long jump at the Hershey’s Track and Field Games nationals Aug. 4 in Hershey, Penn.

Smith stood atop the medal stand in the 9-10 year-old boys’ division after completing a jump of 6 feet, 11 inches.

Smith’s road to the nationals began after taking first place in the standing long jump at the local level Hershey Track Meet held May 12 at Gerlach Field. He then advanced to the state level meet held June 29 in Jefferson City, Mo., where he also took first place to advance to the nationals.
