With more than 160 entries of various art projects and photos, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted their semi-annual Taste of the Arts art show at the Piney Valley Golf Course Thursday evening.

The theme for this fall’s showing was “Naturally,” and entrants were given extra points for submissions involving nature.

Along with the art show, guests were treated to a free wine and beer tasting compliments of area sponsors.

Performances were also given by youth from the Child, Youth and School Services SKIES program throughout the evening.

Fort Leonard Wood’s three winning entries from the 2013 Army Arts and Crafts Contest on Aug. 7 were also on display for visitors to admire.

Christina Taylor, military Family member, won third place with her “Azteca” drawing and honorable mention for her “Elisha” drawing in the Army-wide competition in August.

“I submitted an Aztec pencil drawing which took me about 54 hours to complete and the Elisha one took about 84 hours,” Taylor said. “I’m happy I did this, it was my first time (entering the competition).”

Taylor said when she entered the Fort Leonard Wood competition she didn’t realize she would move on to the larger Army wide one.

Also placing for Fort Leonard Wood was Erin McGowan, Department of Defense Family member, taking second place with her digital art drawing called “Waiting For Her Soldier.”

Brenda Riker, FMWR Arts and Crafts Frame Shop business manager, put the call out to all photographers to enter the Army Garrison wide competition for digital photography that runs from Oct. 15 through Nov. 17.
