By Maj. Gen. Leslie Smith
Maneuver Support Center  of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general

Tomorrow, we will celebrate Thanksgiving, one of America’s favorite holidays.  We all have many things to be thankful for. Command Sgt. Maj. Terrence Murphy and I are thankful for your dedication and the contributions you make to the nation as part of our workforce team here at Fort Leonard Wood.

This time of year normally involves traveling and long distances being covered. Be smart, take frequent breaks, and have a second driver as you travel on holiday. Always wear your seat belts. If you drink alcohol, have a designated driver.  Be aware of your surroundings and watch out for other drivers.

We ask you to be diligent and safe in everything you do. Do not let a hectic schedule impact your judgment. We ask that service members, civilians, and Family members practice safety at every turn.

Leaders need to set the example and always know where your troops are going and what they are doing. We all must look out for one another. If your assessment and common sense tell you something is not quite right, remember your training and make the right decision.

We want you to enjoy the Thanksgiving festivities with your friends and Family, but stay vigilant in everything you do and everywhere you go.  Command Sgt. Maj. Murphy and I are proud to serve with you.
