The Army Chief of Staff announced a transition of general officers between Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Knox, Ky.

Brig. Gen. Peggy Combs, U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School commandant, has been selected as the next U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox commanding general, Fort Knox.

Brig. Gen. Maria Gervais, currently the Army Cadet Command’s deputy commanding general, will replace Combs as the CBRN School commandant and 28th Chief of Chemical.

Gervais is no stranger to Fort Leonard Wood.

She was the first female to lead the 82nd Chemical Battalion and is a former chief of staff for the Army Chemical School and Maneuver Support Center of Excellence.

Combs has been assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, since September 2012.

She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps in May 1985.

Her previous assignments include the 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas; 25th Infantry Division (Light) in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Fort Stewart, Ga.

Combs’ additional assignments include the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, 84th Chemical Battalion and 3rd Chemical Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood; the National Ground Intelligence Center in Charlottesville, Va.; U.S. Army Pentagon in Washington, D.C.; and the U.S. Army Cadet Command in Fort Knox.

She has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom for the U.S. Central Command in MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. and for the Iraq Training and Advisory Mission, U.S. Forces Iraq in  Baghdad.
