The Fort Wood Community Spouses’ Club is now taking applications for outreach grants for nonprofit organizations and schools.

Applications will be accepted through Feb. 21.

Harriette Gates, Community Outreach chair with the spouses’ club, said the grants are in place to help as many organizations as possible.

“We want to support and encourage organizations to continue their mission in helping the community,” Gates said. “It’s all about giving back and reaching those who are in need.”

Gates further explained that the grants are in place to provide organizations with the funds needed to fill in any financial gap they may have.

These grants are not only focused on helping Fort Leonard Wood, but the surrounding community, as well.

“In the past, we’ve helped purchase supplies and books for multiple classrooms within the Waynesville and Crocker school districts,” Gates said. “We’ve also provided assistance in purchasing uniforms for different clubs and the wreaths for the Missouri Veterans  Cemetery.”

Other organizations who received these grants are local charities and even programs such as the St. Nick’s Benefit Program.

“We are focused and determined to help both military and civilian organizations,” Gates said.

“The biggest impact is made when we all work together,” she said.

Applications that are mailed in must also be postmarked by Feb. 21

The Fort Wood Community Spouses’ Club is also welcoming individuals who are willing to serve and volunteer.

“I encourage spouses to sign up to volunteer at any time,” Gates said. “I would also encourage any spouse that is curious about the spouses’ club or just wants to meet new people to join us for a luncheon,” she said.

Luncheons are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every third Thursday at Perishing Community Center. Participants may sign up online or pay the $12 fee at the door.
