April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, and the Fort Leonard Wood Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Office has several events to help increase awareness.

“It’s a month for us to just be aware of sexual assault, sexual violence and rape,” said Robert Lewis, SHARP Program manager. “(A time to) support victims of those crimes and try and prevent future crimes.”

Key events begin Wednesday with an awareness booth from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Post Exchange, with an additional booth scheduled for April 19 for the same time and location.
Representatives will also be on hand for the Army Community Service open house scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. April 6 at ACS, Building 486 on Replacement Avenue, in classrooms B and C.

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s first Family 5k Fun Run and Mini Health Fair of the season will kick off at 8 a.m. April 8 at Davidson Fitness Center with a SAAPM theme where participants are encouraged to wear teal.

A Senior Leader Luncheon for all battalion command teams and above with guest speaker Col. Geoffrey Catlett, SHARP Academy director is scheduled for April 13.

“Col. Catlett will discuss how commands have influenced the SHARP, where the Army has gone with the SHARP Program and where they are going,” Lewis said.

Rounding out the month will be the second annual SHARP Golf Scramble scheduled for noon April 28 at the Piney Valley Golf Course.

Several units throughout the installation are also hosting unique, unit-specific activities such as cake cuttings, scavenger hunts, “Turn it Teal” events, “Denim Day Awareness” observations, trivia-type games and more.

Service members should contact their unit SHARP representatives  for the dates and times of planned activities.
