Special to GUIDON

National Volunteer Week is Sunday through April 29 and the installation will be recognizing Fort Leonard Wood volunteers Wednesday.

The annual Army Volunteer Corps Recognition event is scheduled from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Pershing Community Center. The event will begin with a social time from 2 to  2:30 p.m.

“Throughout the military thousands of service members, civilians, retirees, and Families voluntarily contribute to improving the quality of life in our communities,” said Rhonda Hutsell, Army Volunteer Corps coordinator. “National Volunteer Week is a time to say thank you to these special people who epitomize the National Volunteer Week theme, ‘Army Volunteers, Service for Life.’”

Hutsell said the installation is especially indebted to volunteers as they support numerous community programs, including Family assistance centers, Family readiness groups, private organizations, and hospitals.

“Through their sacrifices, commitment, and supportive actions, the  military will continue to succeed,”  Hutsell said. She said she encourages community members to extend gratitude to volunteers during the observance.
