Flood damage delays opening day at a number of beaches

Special to GUIDON

Summertime is swimming time, and Missouri State Parks offer residents and visitors several public-beach venues with sanded or gravel entry ways to the Show-Me-State’s recreational lakes.

Not all public beaches are open all the time, however. Both natural and human-caused developments can cause health and safety officials to close beaches while repairs or improvements are made.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources offers visitors a guide to the status of public beaches on its website at dnr.mo.gov/asp/beaches/. Travelers are encouraged to check the site before heading out to public beaches, and sign up for email updates from the department.
