After a brief hiatus, the Fort Leonard Wood Community Information Forum is scheduled to return from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 14 at the USO.

“Our Community Information Forum has re-energized and re-vamped,” said Vicki Reed, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Leonard Wood administrative officer and one of the forum’s  coordinators.

The Community Information Forum is an opportunity for community members to learn more about events, organizations and programs around Fort Leonard Wood.  Community members and organizations gather and receive a brief on different subjects and events.

Reed said organizers looked for ways to increase participation, and after consulting with other installations and organizations for best practices, the new format was created.

“The Community Information Forum scheduled for Sept. 14 is a combination of the good ideas we received,” Reed said.

The program for this month’s forum will feature a focus on “Back to School,” with Dr. Brian Henry, Waynesville R-VI School District superintendent, serving as keynote speaker.

“Following (Henry, there) will be a few additional speakers; their time is still limited to 3 to 5 minutes,” Reed said.

A new feature of the program is that it will be live streamed from the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page with Facebook live. Also, there will be a question and answer session and community members can submit questions through the Interactive Customer Evaluation Program. Those with questions can visit online, or use their smart phones to scan a QR code, which will lead them to the place to submit questions.

Reed said she encourages people to ask questions about community events, or questions about how to get involved with programs or where to go to volunteer.

Both prior to and following the program, participants can browse informational tables that different community organizations will set up around the venue. Reed said door prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the program.

Reed said she believes the new format will be positive for the Fort Leonard Wood community.

“Live streaming will reach those that can’t make it to the USO.  Having a question-and-answer session will make the community feel involved,” she said.

“This event is for you, the community; it is to improve community relations, a chance to get involved and share information,” Reed said.  “(This) is a chance to address any questions or concerns you might have.”

Currently, the  Community Information Forum is scheduled for two times a year. A Holiday Block Leave Forum is scheduled for Nov. 21. Future dates will be released following the November event.

Reed said participation in the forums are key to community betterment.

“Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend,” Reed said.  “All community partners, all Families, retirees, civilians and military are invited. Children are welcome. We invite you to get involved and join the conversation.”
