The 33rd annual Cow Days Fall Festival takes place Friday and Saturday in downtown Dixon.

As it has every year since the current festival started in 1983, Cow Days will include food, live music, pageants, a car show, a parade and its signature event — a cow giveaway, a tradition that dates back much earlier than the festival.

During the Great Depression, business owners started holding a drawing for a cow as a way to attract more customers to downtown Dixon. When the first Cow Days festival was organized in 1983, the citizens of Dixon decided to bring back the tradition, making the cow giveaway a centerpiece of the event.

Events begin at 11 a.m. Friday with live music. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by a Youth Fall Festival Pageant, a karaoke contest, music by ChristiAna, Special 20 and more.
Events continue Saturday starting at 10 a.m. with the Cow Days Fall Festival Pageant, the festival parade at 2 p.m., a car show, dancers, live music, the cow giveaway and more.
