Runners have several options in the coming weeks and months as multiple organizations hold 5k, 10k and marathon-level events in and around the Fort Leonard Wood area.

Here are a few upcoming events:

— The Frog Hill Half  Marathon, 10k and the Leapfrog 5k are scheduled Friday and Saturday in Waynesville. The Leapfrog 5k is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday at Waynesville City Park, while the half-marathon and 10k races will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday starting at East Elementary School. Fort Leonard Wood’s 5k Fun Run for Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 14 at Davidson Fitness Center. Runners are encouraged to wear pink to show their support. Participation is free, and the event is open to the public. T-shirts are available for $13 at DFC or at Specker Gym starting Friday. The Lebanon Rotary Route 66 Run is a 5k run and 1-mile fun run/walk scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at Boswell Park, located on Elm Street across from Faye’s Diner in Lebanon. Early registration is $20 for the 5k or $10 for the 1-mile event, and includes a long-sleeve running shirt. Same-day  registration is an additional $5. Medals will be awarded to the overall winners and top three finishers in multiple age groups. You can register online at

The Zombie 5k Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 at Waynesville City Park. Presented by Columbia College, the race gives participants “life tags,” which they must keep away from zombies on the route. Registration fees for the 5k are $20 in advance or $25 on race day, while registration for the Kids Fun Run is $10 in advance and $15 on race day. The Bonehead 5k/10k takes place at 8 a.m. Oct. 28 starting at 7th and Rolla Street in Rolla. Participants can register as individuals or run in three-person teams. Advance registration is $25 per person for the 5k; $30 per person for the 10k. Entry fees increase by $5 after Oct. 15. Register online at

Fort Leonard Wood’s annual Turkey Trot 5k/10k is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 18 starting at DFC. Registration will be $10 in advance through Nov. 15 and $15 afterward. More information will be posted at as soon as it becomes available.

— The Galloping Gobbler 5k/10k is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at Veterans Memorial Park in Rolla. Entry fees are $25 for 5k or the 10k in advance or $40 after Nov. 13. Register online at
