As Thanksgiving approaches and the holiday shopping season begins, communities large and small hold holiday parades.

Here are just some of the parades planned in communities surrounding Fort Leonard Wood:

— The Lebanon Christmas Parade
is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. The parade, which follows the theme, “All Wrapped Up For Christmas,” starts at Boswell Park, located on Elm Street, and proceeds east to Jefferson Street then north to Fifth Street, ending at the old Lebanon Junior High School campus. The parade is free to enter, but participants must follow the rules put forth by the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce. — The Dixon Lighted Christmas Parade
begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 2. The parade of holiday lights winds its way through downtown Dixon, this year ending with cookies and punch with Santa at Mid-America Bank and Trust Co. For more information, contact the Dixon Chamber of  Commerce at 573.759.2121 or visit Dixon Area Chamber Facebook page.

— The Rolla Christmas Parade begins at 10 a.m. Dec. 2 starting on Pine Street in downtown Rolla. The parade is taking entries now through Nov. 24. For more information, call the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce at 573.364.3577 or visit www.rollachamber.org.

— The Laquey Christmas Parade
takes place from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 2 with entries starting at the junction of Highways P and AA in Laquey. The theme of this year’s parade is “Ozark Christmas,” and is being held in conjunction with a day of activities, including a breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by the annual Buckhorn-Laquey Lions Club Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Laquey Elementary gym. — The Kiwanis Club of  Pulaski County Christmas Parade begins at 2 p.m. Dec. 3 starting at the Waynesville Middle School parking lot. The parade will feature multiple floats, bands, antique and classic cars and more. For more information, call 573.774.3001 or visit the club’s Facebook page.

— The Richland Christmas Parade
is scheduled at 11 a.m. Dec. 9 starting at Shady Dell Park. Held by the Richland Chamber of Commerce, the theme of this year’s parade is “Window Wonderland.” For more information, visit the Richland municipal website at richlandmo.info.

— The Springfield  Christmas Parade
is scheduled at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 in downtown Springfield, Missouri. This year’s parade theme is “A Downtown Christmas Story,” and will feature parade floats, bands, performances and more. Want to be a part of the parade? Participation fees start at $150 for nonprofit organizations and $250 for businesses, and may require additional memberships or sponsorships.
