Special to GUIDON

The Fort Leonard Wood Career Skills Program and the State Career Skills Program representative has partnered with the Office of the State Fire Marshal to present the Missouri Fire Fighter Veteran’s Initiative.

The program was created to enable transitioning service members, dependents and veterans to gain meaningful employment within the state’s fire services.  The state of Missouri is actively seeking individuals affiliated with the military because of their leadership, teamwork, and commitment qualities to be a part of their organizations.

Program participants will be provided with information and knowledge to pursue fulfilling careers and volunteer opportunities for fire services throughout the state of Missouri.

This half-day experience will be conducted Feb. 17 in Jefferson City at the Jefferson City Fire Academy and will be a hands-on participation in challenging skill evolutions with a firefighter partner. Skill tasks include:  a high rise ladder climb, fire attack, search and rescue and extrication. The tasks will demonstrate the multiple discipline job duties which firefighters are routinely called upon to perform in times of emergency.

Attendees will also be provided with information regarding fire-service training and certification requirements, benefit and funding opportunities, and have the chance to network with fire service personnel of various ranks and roles from departments throughout the state.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has plans in place to routinely offer these opportunities to transitioning service members from Fort Leonard Wood and Missouri’s veterans.

Future dates for 2018
April 28 — Cassville, Missouri
May 12 — Springfield, Missouri
Summer session — Kansas City, Missouri
September — Sikeston, Missouri
