Special to GUIDON

In April, we observe the Month of the Military Child to show appreciation for the commitment, contributions and sacrifices of children with loved ones serving the nation.

This year’s theme, “Military Kids…At Home Across the World,” sheds light on the demanding military lifestyle and the impact it has on our military children.

Military children frequently relocate, adjust to new environments, integrate into new school systems, meet new friends and spend time away from loved ones who are deployed, away for duty, or working extensive hours.

Our military cannot be successful without the strength of our Families, which certainly includes our incredibly talented, supportive and resilient children.

To thank and recognize our military children here at Fort Leonard Wood, numerous activities are planned through our Child, Youth and School Services.

On April 1st, the Community Fun Fair kicked-off the celebration, and we held events such as the annual PT in the Woods Wednesday and the 5K Fun Run and Mini Health Fair Saturday. Also, many of our on-post recreational establishments are offering great deals for children.

We encourage our Fort Leonard Wood military children to participate and enjoy the many programs our CYS staff has to offer.

Please take the time this month to recognize and thank military children for the support they provide to our service members here at Fort Leonard Wood.

We are proud to serve with you.

Victory starts here — victory through skill.

(Editor’s note: Savre is the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. Stanley is the MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood command sergeant major.)
