Tickets are now available for the 2017 National Prayer Breakfast, scheduled from 6:30 to 8 a.m. May 2 at Pershing Community Center.

Hosted by the Religious Support Office, the breakfast serves as the Fort Leonard Wood’s observance of a nation-wide event.

“Once every year our nation gathers to reflect on the meaning of religious faith and freedom in our nation,” said Chaplain (Maj.) George Tyger, 3rd Chemical Brigade chaplain and project officer for the event. “The National Prayer Breakfast is an opportunity for people of various faiths to gather together and take time to pray specifically and intentionally for our nation, as well as our national leaders, military, and Fort Leonard Wood community.”Tyger said the observance is celebrated both inside and outside the military and is an “important spiritual fitness event for  our Fort Leonard Wood  community.”

Retired Marine Lt. Col. Danny White is scheduled to serve as guest speaker for the program. White, a husband and father of eight children, has spent 25 years studying leadership. After retiring from the military, White founded Lead with Liberty and he has also published “A Widower’s Walk: From Desert to Destiny.”

The National Prayer Breakfast started during World War II when congressional leaders met to pray for the nation and each other. The tradition has continued and expanded since then.

Fort Leonard Wood’s breakfast is open to military members and their Families as well as Department of the Army civilians. Tickets are available in advance for a suggest $10 donation which includes breakfast. Attendance is limited to 325 people.
