If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, consider dropping by Richland’s Shady Dell Park, where a trio of events are planned Saturday.

Events begin at noon with the annual “Pickin’ the Park Swap Meet,” followed by the “Gearhead Bash” car show and festivities from 3 to 9 p.m., and “Movie Night” in the park’s community building.

“We have all kinds of things going on,” explained Susan Alexander, Richland city clerk. Saturday’s events are part of several monthly activities planned by the city’s nine-member volunteer park board for this year, and combine two successful events the city held last year, Alexander said.

“They did the Gearhead Bash last year on Oct. 14, and we had also had a Pickin’ the Park in the past, but this year (the board) decided to combine them,” Alexander said.

The Pickin’ the Park event will be held in the park’s swimming-pool parking lot until 5 p.m. and will feature vendors from throughout Missouri and beyond selling a variety of arts, crafts, food and other items.

“They’ve had people from all over take part,” Alexander said. “In fact, last year they gave a trophy to the (vendor) who traveled the farthest from outside the state of Missouri.”

The Gearhead Bash will feature all makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles, including street rods, rat rods and more, with dash plaques presented to the first 100 entries.

“I know last year they had more than 100 entries,” Alexander said.

Those wishing to show their vehicle can sign up to do so up until the day of the event. Entry fees are $10 per vehicle.

In addition to the car show, the Gearhead Bash will feature live entertainment, children’s games and more.

“They’re going to have a bouncy house, food, vendors, music and more,” Alexander said.

Admission to the festival is free for spectators. The bounce house requires a $1 armband purchase.

Later that evening, visitors can enjoy Movie Night with a free showing of the 1990 film “Days of Thunder.” Starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, the PG-13-rated film tells the story of a hot-shot stock-car driver who gets his chance to compete at the top of the racing world.
