The beginning of grape harvest in the Meramec Highlands marks a very busy and exciting time for wineries in St. James.
To celebrate, the second annual Crush Festival at the Gardens is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Gardens, an outdoor gathering place located at 551 State road B in St. James between St. James Winery and Public House Brewing Company.
The festival includes several free activities and demonstrations including a grape stomp from noon to 4 p.m.
“People can stomp grapes in a barrel like Lucille Ball, see winemaking and cooking demonstrations, learn how wine barrels are made, and listen to live music all day long,” said Gina Maben, an event coordinator. “We welcome everyone to come and share in this exciting time of year.”
Demonstrations include winemaking at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., small-batch brewing at 11 a.m., a barrel-making demonstration at 2 p.m., a cooking demo at 4 p.m. and more.
Live music will be provided by area bands, including Trilogy, Hey Dave and even the Losers.
