Special to GUIDON
On Monday, we celebrate Labor Day, the traditional holiday which honors the men and women of America’s workforce.
Our workforce here on Fort Leonard Wood does an outstanding job every day to support our missions, and we encourage you to enjoy your time off while relaxing with friends and family.
We also ask that you not forget to practice safety at every turn and watch out for one another over the holiday weekend.
Labor Day weekend is also the unofficial end of summer and a popular time for those final trips of the year to the lake and the pool, which means swimming and operating personal watercraft.
Always remember to stay alert and aware of your surroundings while exercising care and using the proper personal protective equipment.
Also, be safe and cautious when driving on these trips, and do not drink alcohol and operate a vehicle of any kind.
Even though the temperatures are not as high, it is still important to closely monitor our teammates for heat illness and injury. Please take measures to protect yourself and others from heat illness by wearing sunscreen, properly hydrating, and practicing good heat dumping techniques.
Monitor weather conditions and always have a plan if you intend to stay outside for an extended period of time.
We ask our leaders to stay engaged and talk with your teams about safety.
Let’s renew our commitment to safety this Labor Day weekend and inspire character through looking out for one another. Make good choices, and help our teammates to avoid poor choices.
Every Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airmen, civilian, contractor and family member is a valued part of our team. We are proud to serve with you.
Victory starts here…victory through skill.
