The Waynesville R-VI School District is hiring both substitute and regular drivers.
“The best part about driving is the interaction with the kids,” said Karl Wilking, director of transportation for the district. “Drivers can help make a student’s day better just by welcoming them in the morning and in the evening.”
Regular drivers work an average of 20 to 30 hours a week, depending on their routes and the number of field trips and athletic events they sign up to drive for.
“If people are looking for a way to give back to the community, driving a bus is one way to do it,” Wilking said. “A driver plays an important role in a child’s education.”
On-the-job paid training starts at $13.36 an hour and starting driver pay starts at $15.11 an hour for the 2018-19 school year.
