The Fort Leonard Wood Religious Support Office is scheduled to host a Chaplain Corps Anniversary Celebration as part of the ending festivities for the installation’s Vacation Bible School from noon to 3 p.m. July 27 at the Main Post Chapel.
“This will serve as a capstone event to Vacation Bible School and as an open celebration across Fort Leonard Wood celebrating 243 years of active religious support for the Soldiers, families and civilians of the United States Army,” said Chaplain (Maj.) Keith Ferrell, 14th Military Police Brigade chaplain and event organizer.
The event is scheduled to include a free lunch, a fire department display and inflatables. A cake cutting ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet and greet with the religious leaders of Fort Leonard Wood and share in a great event designed for the whole family,” Ferrell said. The celebration is free and the public is welcome to attend.
VBS is scheduled Monday through July 27 at the Main Post Chapel.
This year’s VBS is themed “Shipwrecked, Rescued by Jesus,” and the program is open to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade.
According to Rachel Rondon, VBS director, children can expect to sing, dance, play games, learn and experience Bible stories, participate in experiments, and eat tropical treats.
Space is limited, so Rondon encourages people to register as soon as possible by visiting https://vbspro.events/p/flw-2018.
Volunteers are also welcome but will be subject to a background check. Community members can follow the event by “liking” @FLWVBS on Facebook.
