Seasons change, but as we enjoy the benefits of the warmer weather we cannot forget our requirement to maintain our facilities and keep them as efficient as possible.
The Directorate of Public Works have ordered the change over from heating to cooling now that the temperatures seem to have stabilized. This means facilities, are operating different equipment than they were a few weeks ago.
With more than 1,200 facilities on the installation, we can’t get to every building so we have been pushing the required Building Energy Monitor Program out to all commands. This is a requirement from the Army and our own local energy regulation, FLW 420-3.
You, as a BEM, help us all be good stewards of our energy, taxpayers’ hard earned dollars, and our environment. By identifying problems, we can get them addressed and prevent waste. Wasted energy means higher utility bills, higher greenhouse gas creation, and higher consumption of natural resources.
We ask all our BEM’s to get your seasonal checklists completed and submitted via the Energy Branch SharePoint site at https://sp.wood.army.mil/sites/IMCOM/Garrison/DPW/OP/EnergyBranch/default.aspx. You can also self-nominate to be a BEM by contacting us through that same site. We only have a small percentage of facilities represented so far.
We also have links on our site to the Department of Energy, FEMP, and other resources that you can use both in your facilities and at home to help cut energy bills.
