Audiences can enjoy free showing of animated ‘Scoob!’
Fort Leonard Wood will hold its final Movie Night of 2020 with a free showing of the animated feature “Scoob!” starting at 7 p.m. Friday in the Baker Theater Auxiliary Parking Lot.
As with past Movie Nights, attendees will park in areas surrounding the venue and walk to the lot, where they can set up camp chairs, lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the film.
“This is our final Movie Night of the season, and we’re showing it at the Baker Theater Auxiliary lot — we just figured people were used to it, plus it’s great for social distancing,” said LoraLee Neubeck with the FMWR Installation Wide Events office.
Released earlier this year, “Scoob!” is the first full-length animated Scooby-Doo feature film, and tells the story of how the lovable talking dog and his best friends, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred, become crime-busting super sleuths. The film is rated PG for action, language and some rude and suggestive humor.
Along with the movie, there will also be snacks. Neubeck said volunteers with the installation’s Better Opportunities for Single Service Members chapter will have concessions available for purchase, and the United Service Organizations mobile unit will also be on hand.
“The USO will have some giveaways while supplies last,” Neubeck said.
As with all events on Fort Leonard Wood, social distancing and other COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place. The showing will be canceled in case of rain or high winds. No pets are allowed at the venue.
Known as “Movie In the Park” in previous years, the monthly Movie Night was one of the first reoccurring programs Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation brought back following the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first one debuting in July. Turnout has been strong, and feedback largely positive.
“They have been successful,” Neubeck said. “It’s been a nice getaway for the families, especially families with young children, who have room to move around. They’re not confined to a seat, and they can dance and jump around and not bother the people around them.”
