The ongoing project to repair and upgrade the Engineer Trail is ahead of schedule, with more than half of the work already completed.
The Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security announced that work on the lower half of the trail, which began in late May, is finished, and crews are now focusing on the upper half.
Among the work currently underway: Crews are building an Americans-with-Disabilities Act-compliant access near Morelli Heights that will enable military families, veterans and others with disabilities easier access to the trail. Crews are also working to clean culverts, installing retaining walls, install new drainage ditches and resurface the trail with new gravel.
The trail is currently open to runners and walkers, although some portions may be closed off while work is completed. Soldiers and family members are asked to follow safety signage posted at the trailhead entrances located at Morelli Heights and the Noncommissioned Officer Association billets.
