No matter where or how you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday this year, the Fort Leonard Wood Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Facebook page will have a variety of activities designed to create and share memories.
“Now, more than ever, we are reminded of what we are truly thankful for,” said LoraLee Neubeck with the FMWR Installation Wide Events office. She said the activities are designed to allow viewers to, “tell MWR what you are grateful for in your life.”
“We know these are difficult times, and we hope the community will take this day to reflect on what they are thankful for,” she said. “We have recipes, crafts, activities and sharable posts on our social media outlets.”
Among the activities currently on the page or planned for Thanksgiving Day:
— The Thanksgiving Photo Contest began Sunday and continues through Saturday. Visitors are invited to post their Thanksgiving photos on the FMWR Facebook page with the hashtag “#FLWphotocontest.”
Photos must be taken on Fort Leonard Wood on the contest dates and follow the theme, “Being Thankful.”
After the posting period ends, a panel of judges will select the top six photos, and the one with the most “likes” will be declared the winner.
— Thanksgiving Activities include games that children of all ages can play using items they likely have at home. Games include “Gobble Waddle,” where children walk-race with an inflated balloon, or “turkey,” between their legs; “Turkey Tag,” which instructs children to decorate clothespins, which they then try to swipe from other players; and a treasure hunt, which gives kids a list of items to find and be thankful for.
— Thanksgiving Crafts includes instructions to make coffee-filter turkeys, gratitude chains and a scarecrow-themed craft.
— Thanksgiving Recipes include instructions to make two types of turkey cookies, as well as a savory “easy creamed corn.”
Complete instructions will be included in each post.
