Special to GUIDON
On Tuesday we will celebrate the 71st birthday of the United States Air Force, the world’s premier force in air, space and cyberspace.
The official date of the founding of the U.S. Air Force is September 18, 1947, even though the U.S. Military took to the skies as far back as 1909.
World War II illustrated the value of airpower and the need to create a separate branch devoted to aerospace operations.
Since then, the U.S. Air Force has proven their essential role to our mission time and time again, serving in every major conflict and being our guardians of the sky.
Whether flying sorties or bombers, transporting troops, analyzing weather, defending our military against cyber-attacks or conducting reconnaissance missions, the U.S. Air Force plays a vital role in the security of our nation.
The U.S. Air Force, working jointly with Soldiers, Marines and Sailors, continues to dominate in all dimensions of the battlefield, and we continue to benefit from those joint partnerships here at Fort Leonard Wood.
We thank our Air Force teammates here and around the world for their service to our country and for remaining the world’s greatest Air Force. Happy Birthday, United States Air Force.
Aim High…Fly, Fight, Win.
Victory starts here…victory through skill.
(Editor’s note: Martin is the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. Hodgkins is the MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood interim command sergeant major.)
