Special to GUIDON
On July fourth, we will celebrate our nation’s 242nd birthday.
This Independence Day, we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and honor our rich history. 242 years ago, our nation began based on the idea that all men and women are created equal and that freedom and opportunity are to be cherished and preserved. We also thank the selfless men and women who answered the call to serve and to protect and defend these ideals.
As you plan for the holiday weekend, we encourage you to spend quality time with friends and family and participate in the many outdoor activities available. As you enjoy this time, remember to be prepared, be smart and look out for each other.
If you choose to use fireworks, ensure that you clear the area and maintain a safe distance from vegetation, buildings, vehicles, people and pets. Educate yourself, and always read cautionary labels to prevent needless injury. Never use fireworks while consuming alcohol, and remember that they are not authorized for personal use on the installation.
Continue to keep in mind other warm-weather considerations as you spend time boating, camping or enjoying the outdoors. All-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and watercraft are a lot of fun, but improper use or operation while drinking alcohol or without protective gear can result in fatal consequences.
We appreciate the continued support from our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and civilians in practicing safe habits and protecting our force. We are proud to serve with you and look forward to seeing you at this year’s Fort Leonard Wood fireworks show.
Victory Starts Here – Victory Through Skill!
