Fort Leonard Wood is scheduled to welcome military retirees “home” as the installation hosts its annual Retiree Appreciation Days Sept. 6 and 7.
This is the 40th year for the program at Fort Leonard Wood.
“Retirees are a vital part of our military Family, and their experiences and expertise counts,” said Noah Stevens Jr., Retirement Services officer.
“Retiree Appreciation Days keeps the retired Soldiers and their Families up to date on changes in their retirement rights, benefits and privileges,” Stevens said.
The weekend is set to include activities, such as a golf tournament, installation tours and a dinner.
Festivities kick off with a four-person golf scramble from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Piney Valley Gold Course. Cost is $60 per person and includes greens fee, range balls, cart and lunch. For more information on the golf tournament, call 573.329.4770.
Stevens said the dinner, scheduled for Sept. 6, is always a popular event.
“The Retiree Appreciation Days Dinner (is) where retirees get the chance to rekindle old memories and relationships of the past,” Stevens said.
Cost of the dinner is $20 per person, and those wishing to attend should be sure their payment arrives no later than Aug. 23. Payments should be mailed to the FLW Retiree Council, P.O. Box 614, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 65473. Funds must be received no later than Aug. 23.
On Sept. 7, Col. Kimberlie Biever, General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital commander, is scheduled to serve as keynote speaker at 8:30 a.m. at Abrams Theater.
Following Biever, there will be a town hall question and answer session scheduled until 10 a.m., a Health Fair with information booths from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Nutter Field House.
Stevens encourages all area retirees to participate in the various programs.
“These events are important because they continue to foster goodwill between the retired and active-duty communities,” Stevens said. “All retired service members, Family members and annuitants (are welcome).”
