Fort Leonard Wood’s military-unit softball teams completed the final week of their 2019 intramural season with games played July 30 and 31 at Sports Complex B.
The 14th Military Police Brigade won their final game of the season with a 14-7 win over the 2nd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, to finish with a record of 8-2 and hold onto their first-place position in the final standings.
The 14th MP Bde. jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a 2-RBI double by Timothy Jenkins and an RBI by Walter Owens. After the 2-10th Inf. Bn. Tomahawks scored two runs in the top of the second inning on a home run by Dustin Bulen and an RBI by Michael Krant, the 14th MP Bde. pulled away in the bottom half of the inning on separate three-run home runs by Brice Schoener and Mario Coronado to head into the third inning with a seven-run lead. The 14th MPs would maintain that lead for the remainder of the game, giving up five runs but adding five of their own to seal the win.
Including the 14th MP Bde., four teams finished the season with records of 8-2. The U.S. Marine Corps Detachment finished the season in second place; the 554th Engineer Battalion took third, and Combat Training Company finished in fourth place. Following those teams in the standings were the 35th Engineer Battalion (6-4), the Noncommissioned Officer Academy (5-5), the 2-10th Inf. Bn. (4-6), the Sappers (3-7), the 58th Transportation Battalion (2-8), the 31st Engineer Battalion (2-8) and the Medical Department Activity (1-9).
In games played July 30:
— The 31st Engr. Bn. picked up a forfeit win;
— The 554th Engr. Bn. beat the 58th Trans. Bn., 1-0.
— The Marine Det. beat NCOA 10-7;
In other games played July 31:
— CTC beat the 31st Engr. Bn. 19-0;
— NCOA slipped past the 35th Engr. Bn. 17-16;
— CTC defeated MEDDAC 17-2.
Teams now have their attention on the Commander’s Cup Softball Tournament, is scheduled to begin Aug. 20 at Complex B.
