If you’ve ever wondered what Fort Leonard Wood’s fitness programs were all about, mark your calendar for Jan. 5 and plan to attend the annual “New Year, New You” event.
Scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at Davidson Fitness Center, the event will give attendees a chance to meet the installation’s Group Fitness Team, take sample classes and get a jumpstart on health and wellness goals for the future.
“It really just gives everybody an introduction to what we have to start off the new year,” said Kirstan Carpenter, FMWR fitness coordinator at DFC. “It allows patrons to meet our fitness instructors, sample classes and become acquainted with what we have on site. We will have our personal trainers here to assist (visitors) with questions.”
Carpenter said Fort Leonard Wood will have some new classes and several variations on current classes available in 2019, including the return of Mixxed Fit.
“(Mixxed Fit) has not been on the schedule for at least over a year now, and it is just slowly growing its momentum,” Carpenter said.
She described Mixxed Fit as, “explosive dancing with boot-camp toning.”
“You work as a group with some dance moves, some interval training and different low-impact exercises,” Carpenter said. “Really, it’s an all-around group-fit experience for all fitness levels, since everything can be modified or intensified to fit any fitness level.”
The New Year, New You event will also provide previews of several new yoga classes, DFC plans to offer in the evenings, as well as “Pound,” a relatively new program that Carpenter says is slowly growing in popularity.
Other classes featured during the event include Body Pump, aquatic classes, spin classes and Pilates.
Admission to New Year, New You is $8 per person, and the event is open to patrons ages 13 and older.
Pre-registration is not required for all classes but is required for spin classes, because there are limited bikes available. Pre-registration opens Dec. 29, and can be completed by calling 573.596.4359 or by visiting leonardwood.armymwr.com.
