The Outdoor Adventure Center will host the annual Kid’s Catfish Derby from 10 a.m. to noon June 8 at the pond at Training Area 228.
Fishing will be open to anglers ages 2 to 15, who can fish for up to four catfish each.
Participants should plan to bring fishing poles, bait and tackle.
“They’ll need to bring their own,” said Paige Jennings with the Outdoor Adventure Center. “We do rent poles for $5 each (at OAC). You would have to purchase bait and tackle for (the derby).”
All participants must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants can potentially earn prizes if they reel in specially tagged catfish. Those tags can be turned in for a variety of items.
Registration will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. onsite the day of the event.
Online maps to the TA 228 pond and other fishing areas are available at Fort Leonard Wood’s iSportsman website at https://ftleonardwood.isportsman.net/Maps.aspx.
