The historic Bagnell Dam Strip in Lake Ozark, Missouri, is the place to be for classic-car enthusiasts when the Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals comes to town.
One of the largest events of its kind in mid-America, the car show will celebrate its 30th anniversary at the Lake of the Ozarks community May 4, 5 and 6. The show, which takes its name from the serpentine shape of the Lake of the Ozarks, is open to a variety of makes and models and brings in more than 10,000 spectators from across the Midwest to check out all the cool cars, trucks and motorcycles on display along the strip throughout the weekend.
A portion of Bagnell Dam Strip will be closed off to regular motor traffic during show hours May 5, so that the 1,000 vehicles on display can be easily accessed and viewed by attendees and fellow show car owners.
Show car categories include makes ranging from the early 1900s to present day, from “rat rods” to “street rods,” “street machines” to muscle cars, along with trucks and motorcycles.
The pristine show vehicles are the main draw, but other events and activities are designed to keep attendees entertained throughout the weekend. There are make-and-take model-building activities for children, a Magic Dragon poker run for adults, golden oldies broadcast live on location by local deejays, drawings and more.
New for 2018, the legendary “Big Foot” monster truck will put on a car-crushing demonstration on at 2 p.m. May 5 at Firestone Alley, next to Two-Bit Town along the strip. The demo, like all Magic Dragon events, is open to the public and free to attend.
