The Missouri Department of Conservation has canceled its 2020 kids’ fishing day events at the state’s trout parks as part of ongoing safety precautions against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department had previously planned May 2 events at Montauk State Park near Licking and Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon, as well as May 16 events at Roaring River State Park near Cassville and Maramec Spring Park in St. James.
To protect the public amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the department also announced it has extended the temporary closures of its facilities and cancellations of all public events and programs through April 30. Closures include regional offices, department headquarters in Jefferson City, Missouri; staffed shooting ranges, nature centers, visitor centers and education centers. MDC officials have also temporarily canceled public events and programs, including hunter education classes, nature center programs and events, shooting-range programs and events, and landowner workshops. Department officials are also urging visitors to MDC sites to enjoy responsible recreation by continuing to maintain physical distance in the outdoors and avoid popular areas where people may congregate.
