The Medical Department Activity won it’s fourth consecutive volleyball match of the season with a 2-1 win over the 169th Engineer Battalion.
With the win, MEDDAC kept its season record intact and preserved its spot at the top of the Conference A standings.
According to player/coach Christopher Soto, the team’s success is a result of the experience of playing alongside each other the previous two years.
“This is our third year playing together, so I think that’s why we’ve been so good (this season),” Soto said. “Most of our team is from Puerto Rico, and we all played together there. So, it’s pretty easy when we come in, speaking the same language on the court, and everybody knows their position.”
The 169th Engr. Bn. came as close as any team has come to besting MEDDAC this season. After MEDDAC won the first game 25-19, the 169th Engr. Bn. won the second game 25-22 before falling in the tiebreaker 15-7.
Bryan Richardson led MEDDAC with nine points, including two aces in the first game and three spikes in the final. Tommy Rodriguez followed with six points, including two spikes in the first and final games.
Caleb Turnbough led the 169th Engr. Bn. with three hits and a spike. Lisa Knight’s serves resulted in four unanswered points in the second game, including an ace, which helped turn the tide in that contest.
