I am not a Greek scholar by any stretch of the imagination, but this word, “metamorphoo” means to be transformed or to change into another form.
Like a caterpillar metamorphoses into a butterfly, there is a complete change, a transformation, so too there can be a complete change or a transformation of our minds.
The definition of metamorphosis under Merriam-Webster says, “change of physical form, structure, or substance especially by supernatural means.”
In Romans 12:2 we see the supernatural change or means, God! We are told to no longer conform to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Many struggle with taking thoughts captive. There is a struggle with the mind and a warfare with dark thoughts. Many stay in the dark with their thoughts, not coming to the light, and yet God says we’re to have the mind of Christ. He is the light of the world.
We can be transformed by the renewing of our minds when we realize there’s a warfare that goes against the knowledge of God.
The enemy wants many to stay captive to their thoughts, “for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”
God created you and gave you a mind. He can and will transform your thoughts when these thoughts are taken captive under the authority of Jesus Christ.
When we meditate upon God’s word and hide God’s word in our hearts we can tear down all fortresses of the enemy. For he, Satan, is a liar and seeks to devour every aspect of our lives. He will attack the mind, but God demonstrated his love in that while we were yet sinners, God sent Jesus to die for our sins. God has given us power in Jesus in order to be in our right minds and clothed in Light, Luke 8:35. Therefore, be metamorphosed or transformed in your minds to Christ likeness.
