Visitors to Miller Cave on Fort Leonard Wood must now check in and out through the installation’s online iSportsman portal.
In order to check in, visitors must first register with iSportsman at https://ftleonardwood.isportsman.net. After completing a short safety quiz online, they can receive a free Outdoor Recreation Permit and a vehicle pass with their permit number, which will then let them check in and out of hunting, fishing and recreation areas.
To check into Miller Cave, registered users who are logged in can navigate to the Checkin/Checkout section of the website and select the “Miller Cave Recreation Area” tab. Visitors should check out after they leave.
Active on Fort Leonard Wood since 2017, iSportsman is often associated with hunting and fishing on post, but all persons recreating outdoors in areas outside of the cantonment area are required to have an Outdoor Recreation Permit and to check in and out of areas using the iSportsman portal. This applies to any recreation, including activities such as dog walking, hiking, mushroom hunting, berry picking, horse riding, spelunking, bird watching, collecting shed antlers, etc.
Like hunters and anglers, other types of outdoor recreationists are encouraged to keep paper copies of their Outdoor Recreation Permit on their persons, as well as a copy of their vehicle passes visibly displayed inside their vehicles while in a recreation area.
One of the benefits of using the iSportsman site is safety. By checking in and out through the portal, Conservation Law Enforcement officials can quickly respond to individuals who may need assistance from emergency services.
