Viewers can watch ‘Frozen 2,’ camp overnight at Gerlach Field
Registration has opened for the upcoming “Movie in the Park Campout,” which will give audiences a chance to see the animated film “Frozen 2” as well as an opportunity to camp out under the stars starting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Gerlach Field.
While the movie showing is free, camping reservations are $20, which includes a 20-square-foot camping space for an overnight stay, as well as a complimentary pizza and a continental breakfast pack, courtesy of the Fort Leonard Wood USO. Registration can be completed in person at the Installation Wide Events office in Bldg. 470, Suite 1105, by phone at 573.596.6913 or online at https://leonardwood.armymwr.com.
“This is our third year of doing a campout with a movie,” explained LoraLee Neubeck with the Installation Wide Events office.
“It’s been a fun event,” she added. “It’s a nice, safe environment, and it’s especially good for first-time campers. If you have kids who have never camped before, it’s a great place and it’s close to home.”
Registered participants can bring their own tents to set up at Gerlach Field. Tents are also available to rent from the Outdoor Adventure Center now through Sept. 16.
“We invite campers to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the movie, and we also want to encourage them to watch the weather forecast, dress appropriately and bring the appropriate bedding for the temperatures that night,” Neubeck said.
“Frozen 2” brings the characters of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Sven back together as they leave their kingdom to travel to an ancient, autumn-bound forest to find the origins of Elsa’s powers. The 2019 movie is rated PG.
During and the showing, concessions will be available for purchase from the post’s Better Opportunities for Single Service Members chapter.
No overnight supervision will be provided. The event will be canceled in case of rain or high winds. No pets will be allowed at the venue.
