Special to GUIDON
The holiday season is upon us — a time to relax with loved ones and celebrate the year’s accomplishments.
As winter dawns and we begin Holiday Block Leave, please have a plan to stay safe.
When traveling — regardless of distance — take into account increased traffic, weather and other risk factors.
Inspect vehicles prior to travel, and use the buddy system. Texting, alcohol use and sleep deprivation raise the risk of accidents.
When driving remember, “Buckle up, phone down!” When you get in any vehicle, buckle up your safety belt. If you are a driver, put the cell phone down. Turn it off if you have to — every trip, every time.
We also ask that our leaders remain engaged with your teams before, during and after HBL. Watch out for one another, and identify at-risk behavior that may lead to misconduct or self-harm, and intervene.
The holiday season can be an extremely tough time for some, especially those unable to travel home, but battle buddies can make a difference.
Whether you are a service member, civilian, retiree, or family member, you are part of our Fort Leonard Wood Team of Teams.
Take care of each other. You are vital to mission success, and we want you to return to duty safely.
We are proud to serve with you and look forward to seeing you in 2020.
Victory starts here — victory through skill.
(Editor’s note: Martin is the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. Breckinridge is the MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood command sergeant major.)
