By Maj. Gen. Donna Martin and Command Sgt. Maj. James Breckinridge
The holiday season provides us a wonderful opportunity to visit family and friends, take much needed time off from our daily routines and reflect on accomplishments of the past year.
As we execute Holiday Block Leave operations, we ask that you practice safety in everything you do.
Increased travel, combined with holiday traffic and often unpredictable weather, results in a period of increased risk. Your personal involvement to raise safety awareness during this season will make a great difference.
We want you to enjoy your time while remaining vigilant and focused on preventing accidents and injuries. Following responsible driving habits can ensure you arrive safely at your destination.
We also ask that our leaders remain engaged with your teams before, during, and after HBL. Watch out for one another, identify at-risk behavior including behavior that may lead to misconduct or self-harm, and intervene.
The holiday season can be an extremely tough time for some, especially those unable to travel home. Battle-buddies are an effective counter-measure to misconduct and can make all the difference.
Every Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airman, civilian and family member is an important and valued member of our team of teams. We need everyone to return safe and well as we enter into the new year.
We wish you a happy holiday season, and we are very proud to serve with you.
Victory starts here…victory through skill.
