Special to GUIDON
The third week of April is Volunteer Appreciation Week. As we take time to celebrate the tremendous impact of volunteerism in and around Fort Leonard Wood, we also applaud those who generously dedicate their free time to shape a brighter future for us all.
Our great nation is founded on the values of patriotic citizens who banded together to build and protect America. Today, volunteers continue to inspire the same culture of selfless service.
This year’s Volunteer Appreciation Week theme, “Army Volunteers: We Salute You,” honors our military servants —Soldiers, retirees, civilians, and family members — who have stabilized and enhanced the well-being of our community. We are thrilled to recognize everything they do: tutoring and mentoring youth, assisting seniors who live independently, supporting veterans and military families, assisting with disaster recovery and so much more. Volunteers problem solve, provide services and truly make a difference.
Many post services and programs rely heavily, or entirely, on volunteers to operate. There are always opportunities to volunteer here on Fort Leonard Wood and in the community with and through military-driven programs and private organizations including the Bruce C. Clarke Library, on- and off-post schools, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, unit Family Readiness Groups, YMCA and USO to name a few. We encourage you to contact your unit volunteer coordinator or Army Community Service at 573.596.0212 for further information.
Your hard work and selfless service doesn’t go unnoticed.
This month, let’s help encourage others to give back to our Fort Leonard Wood team of teams. We thank you for your willingness to help others and are proud to honor your service and to serve with you.
Victory starts here — victory through skill.
(Editor’s note: Savre is the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. Stanley is the MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood command sergeant major.)
