Special to GUIDON
On Monday, we observe Labor Day to pay tribute to the men and women of America’s workforce. The American workers’ efforts continue to aid our nation’s prosperity.
This holiday weekend, we want to thank the Fort Leonard Wood workforce for the wonderful job you do to support our mission each day. We encourage you to spend quality time with family and friends in your time off. Enjoy the many outdoor activities Fort Leonard Wood has to offer in the last days of summer.
Each member of our Team of Teams is valued and is vital to accomplishing the mission. We want and need you to remain safe this weekend. Aim to minimize risk and eliminate preventable accidents.
Continue to protect yourself and others from heat illness and injury. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and monitor weather conditions. Have a plan if you intend to stay outside for an extended period of time.
If you travel — regardless of distance — plan for increased traffic, weather, and other risk factors.
Make sure your vehicle is in good working order. Wear seatbelts, and obey posted speed limits.
Use hands-free devices and avoid anything that impairs your ability to drive safely. Texting, alcohol, and sleep deprivation raise the risk of motor vehicle accidents. Continue your steadfast service in our profession by making responsible choices.
On behalf of a grateful nation, we thank you for all you do. We are proud to serve with you.
Victory starts here…victory through skill.
(Editor’s note: Martin is the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. Breckinridge is the MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood command sergeant major.)
