By Maj. Gen. Donna Martin and Command Sgt. Maj. Henney Hodgkins
Special to GUIDON
Command Sgt. Maj. Henney Hodgkins and I accepted the tremendous responsibility of leading this organization on Aug. 28, and we are truly honored and excited to serve with this great team of teams.
Leading you — Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, contractors, civilians and family members — is a great privilege for us and something we are proud of and will not take for granted.
Similarly, each of you has some part in leading or developing the next generation of our military and civilian teammates.
Your individual contributions and impacts are important. Command Sgt. Maj. Hodgkins and I hope that you are passionate about what you do and will continue to give your best because our missions are critical to the nation.
What you do every day is also critical to every young man or woman who raised their right hand and said “I will, send me,” and who are willing to go into harm’s way. They deserve our leadership and our finest efforts.
As the nation asks the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence to train and prepare for the fight, to support those currently in the fight, to develop fielded force capabilities and to engage with our teammates, we must remember that our daily individual actions are a reflection of our profession.
America entrusts us with special responsibilities, and we must hold ourselves to high standards whether on a battlefield, a training area or in public establishments.
Everything we choose to do — actions, language and appearance — must reflect the Army values. And, if a teammate falls short, we must do the right thing, help them out and enforce the standards.
We are proud of you and your choice to serve, and we are proud to be a part of this incredible organization.
Thank you for all that you do every day to make our Army and our military stronger.
Victory starts here…victory through skill.
(Editor’s note: Martin is the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. Hodgkins is the MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood interim command sergeant major.)
