Special to GUIDON
Airman 1st Class Josh Sandoval completed basic training and was en route from Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, to Fort Leonard Wood for advanced training when the flight experienced severe turbulence.
A flight attendant fell, hit her head and was knocked unconscious. Sandoval quickly administered CPR to restore breathing, applied ice/compression, and kept the flight attendant awake as the flight was diverted to land sooner to ensure care for the attendant.
We are proud of Sandoval’s willingness to use the skills he gained in basic training and are proud to have him here attending the U.S. Air Force’s ground transportation course, where he will learn vehicle and cargo logistical operations.
Rhonda Hutsell is the Army Volunteer Corps coordinator at Fort Leonard Wood who planned and organized the post’s annual Make a Difference Day. Despite a very cold and rainy day, approximately 2,500 volunteers participated in more than 35 area beautification and restoration projects across the installation.
Attendance and participation in the event were at an all-time high since its inception 12 years ago. We appreciate Hutsell’s continued commitment to making this event a great success.
