Public Notice regarding the mitigation of adverse effects to two historic properties at Fort Leonard Wood
In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act and its implementing regulation 36 C.F.R. § 800, Fort Leonard Wood invites the public to comment on the proposed mitigation measures for the adverse effect to two historic properties. The historic properties are two archaeological sites that were inadvertently adversely effected during a military construction project. Both sites are eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
A draft Memorandum of Agreement has been developed which stipulates the measures Fort Leonard Wood will take to mitigate the damage caused to the archaeological sites. The measures were developed in consultation with the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office and Fort Leonard Wood’s federally recognized, culturally affiliated Native American consulting tribes. Details of the content of the draft MOA can be found at https://home.army.mil/wood/application/files/6115/9101/6858/20200529.pdf.
Comments on the proposed mitigation measures will be accepted for a period of 30 calendar days following the date of this publication.
