The annual Kid’s Trout Fishing Derby will be held Saturday at Stone Mill Spring Recreation Area.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., participants ages 15 and younger can fish for free. Stone Mill Spring will be stocked with more than 1,000 rainbow trout, including specially marked trout that young anglers can turn in for prizes.
The event is free, and no pre-registration is required.
Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Adults are not allowed to fish but can assist young anglers with fishing tips, help bait hooks and cast.
Participants must bring their own fishing poles, tackle and bait.
The Natural Resources Branch is hosting the event in tandem with the Outdoor Adventure Center, the U.S. Forest Service and the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Parking will be allowed along the shoulders of Route 26 toward Piney Valley Golf Course. A shuttle service will be provided from Route 26 to the Happy Hollow parking lot.
